Living in a dome
Living in a dome is quite a unique experience. The Boyt home is the Orion style and is only one of many, many styles of dome homes. We chose the Orion because it gives you some flat walls that allow for a better placement of furniture.
One of the first things I noticed after we moved in was that the house is very quiet. You do not hear much noise from the outside. We have to look out to see if the wind is blowing, the rain makes a little pitter patter on the roof and best of all it is safe in case of tornadoes. Cars, trucks and motorcycles drive by within a block of the house and all we hear is an occasional motorcycle. Visitors can arrive at your door and you never hear them coming. That can be a good thing or not.
With hot water heat in the floor there are no heat registers. The temperature inside the dome stays pretty constant 24 hours a day. Best of all the floor is warm in the winter when you get out of bed and the heating and cooling bills are much, much lower than in a conventional home.
