Hello, my name is Rick Arnold, a partner in Green Living Domes, Inc. Thank you for visiting our web site.

I have been in the construction industry for 25 years and have built several conventional homes. I also specialize in finish carpentry.

In 2006, my company, Arnold Construction, Inc. helped to build the Jack Boyt dome in Ankeny, Iowa. In preparation for this project, I attended the Monolithic Dome Workshop in Italy, Texas and maintain a close working relationship with the Monolithic Institute.

Green Living Domes, Inc. is a full service contractor. We can take your project from ground to move-in, or turn it over to you at any stage of completion. We believe in our highly efficient, super strong buildings and will be happy to answer your questions.

Living in a dome is quite a unique experience. The Boyt home is the Orion style and is only one of many, many styles of dome homes. We chose the Orion because it gives you some flat walls that allow for a better placement of furniture. (Continued…)

The Swanson Project

We will try to document the construction of the Swanson Project as construction proceeds. At this time of year weather presents a problem. Between rain and cold tempertures we are trying to complete the garage before winter and finish the project next spring. We will be updating this document as work is completed. (Continued…)

Swanson Update

We were able to finish up the garage just before the big snow storm of December 8, 2009 hit. Building of domes requires good weather and unfortunately the winter weather was not cooperative. We looked forward to spring and spring came along with rain, rain and more rain. In mid June we were finally able to get the foundation for the house in and will plan to have the floor of the house poured by July 15th. (Continued…)
